'**the roads**'

THE ROADS jsou českou kapelou s britským zpěvákem, která se dala dohromady koncem roku 2006. Když měli dost čekání na to "až si jich někdo všimne", vydali v březnu 2009 svou debutovou desku a odstěhovali se do německého Berlína. Společně bydlí ve čtyřpokojovém bytě ve Friedrichshainu a plní si sen všech rock'n'rollových kapel světa - živí se jen a jen svou vlastní hudbou! Kromě berlínských klubů (mj. Sage, Café Zapata, Wild At Heart) vystupují též poměrně často i v České republice. Kapela hraje s obrovským nasazením a není divu,  že zvláště v menších klubech se vystoupení často zvrhnou v jednu velkou párty, kdy publikum tančí na stolech, na baru i na pódiu spolu s kapelou!

Koncem roku 2009 THE ROADS vyhráli prestižní soutěž RGM Live Space, která jim zabezpečila spolupráci s renomovaným vydavatelstvím RGM.

• What the songs mean – Disappear

  Ever been scared of doing something new? This is for you!

  Get off your f*cking arse and make a statement.

  This was a kind of Noel Gallagher rant about standing up, shouting out your dreams and taking what you want from life. We made this song quite early on as well, but it sounds much better live than the recording now, with the backing vocals from Simon and Ondra.

  For me, this song was therapy for my nerves on stage as we started out together. I tried writing more verses and gave up, deciding to keep it raw and blunt. We normally play this first at our gigs thesedays. No intro, straight into the first line... :-)

• What the songs mean – Colours

  The Colours of You or Colours as it became know later, grew out of a session in a wierd practice room in Prague 5, where the electricity cut out at least twice and the feedback from old amps was almost deafening. Luckily, a strong melody shaped itself pretty quickly. This was one of those times when the music came first, and left me thinking what the atmosphere of the melody said to me. On a bus to Ceska Lipa to record She's my cure, I started thinking over times in Prague and the people I had come across. I tend to draw stuff before I write, which keeps most of my lyrics quite visual, and I started with a crystal refracting light into a spectrum and made the parallel with people. We are far more than we first appear. The seedy night spots of central Prague inspired the first verse...

  „a dim lit bar, in the city... a girls parade, so pretty... brown eyes dance, around a pole... a Red lipstick smile, is not her soul”

  The second verse continues the story stood at a burger bar on Wenceslas Square, where I ended up buying a more senior member of the homeless food and drink for half an hour. He showed me all the foreign currency he had collected over the years, even photos of his family...
  „a guilty walk, out of sight... shades of pink, fill the night... a grey head sleeps, in the square... pocket picture hides, someone who cared“
  This song started to define our sound, as the first track we recorded guitar and piano together. Switch added the guitar sound originally, now played by Ondra. We added an intro for concerts to build it up but kept the recording punchy. It became our signature tune for our first year together, and also the track we chose to make a video about in June 07. We are starting to outgrow this song now, with more complex music and vocals in recent tracks like Today, Promise etc. We still love it though, and as a simple structure based around 3 chords it seems to keep people happy with a positive message :)
